I think we can all agree that comparison sucks. So why can’t we stop doing it to ourselves? Whether if your parents compare you to your siblings or if you compare yourself to bloggers on Instagram, comparison is everywhere and it’s an extremely bad habit to have. This is something we all need to stop doing, RIGHT NOW. Here are 3 ways to stop comparing yourself to others.
Get off of social media
It’s super easy to compare yourself to others because in this era of social media, everyone is more accessible. It’s easier to see what’s going on with other people without actually having to talk to them. However, everything’s not always what it seems. Everyone’s feeds are perfect which gives off the impression that everyone’s lives are all perfect and everyone has it all figured out. The less time you spend on social media, the less you will care about comparing your life to other people’s.
Getting off of social media can also help minimize stress that may or may not be related with comparing yourself to other people. So take some extra time to relax, destress, and step away from the outside world for a moment.
Give yourself high-fives and affirmations
Celebrate every time you do a good job and tell yourself that you are amazing. It sounds silly, but this actually makes a difference. When you validate yourself and give yourself approval, you will feel better about your work. Normally, we are our harshest critic. So, lighten up and you will naturally stop comparing your work to others.
In the end, you are your number one fan and what you think of yourself is the most important opinion to listen to.
Practice gratitude daily
Comparison comes from what we want and what we don’t have (when someone has what we want), but what about what we already have? Practice gratitude and be thankful for what you already have, no matter how big/small. The more grateful you are for the things around you, then the less envy you will feel toward other people.
